Annual TKD Picnic

For a day that all forecasters declared a wash-out, Sunday the 14th was a spectacular day for our annual picnic at Moreau Rec.  Temperatures were perfect for lots of baseball, softball, frisbee, slide rides and lots of other fun, and we were once again very fortunate.  The food each person brought was amazing, as usual.  The variety of meals and desserts would make any TV food show envious!  Thanks again to nearly 100 who were able to show up, despite many other activities going on in their lives.

On Saturday, August 13th, we were privileged to test and promote twenty-five white belts to the rank of yellow.  It isn’t often a school can put that many white belts, children through adult, on the floor at the same time and have them perform their pattern together nearly flawlessly.  They did a tremendous job with basics, vocabulary and board breaking as well.   Thanks to all of our fine instructors who did such a great job helping them achieve their first color belt ranking.

In a second test, twenty- seven color belts tested and achieved their new rankings ranging from yellow I to red II.  It never ceases to amaze us how much material our students can retain and perform on command.  They each did a fantastic job on forms, basics, kicks, self-defense, step-sparring, bo-staff work, patterns, stick, knife and gun defenses, hap ki do and breaking as well as vocabulary and history.  Again, all kudos to our super staff of  thirty black belts instructors and all those who help, lead, teach and share information to help others reach their goals.

Northeast Open Results

Congratulations to twenty-four Glens Falls Tae Kwon Do students who participated in the fifth annual Northeast Open Tournament in Albany on July 9th.  The night before,  a Gala was held celebrating the fifth anniversary of the event.  One hundred and fifty participated in a semi-formal sit-down dinner followed by a spectacular demonstration of kicking, weapons and breaking by world record holders.   It was an exciting, fun evening for all who attended.  On Saturday, well over two hundred participants competed in as many as ten events each in such categories as forms, sparring, weapons and breaking.  Our students were very successful, garnering more than forty trophies and medals among them.  This event has grown each year, and has become one of the most popular local events ever.  Let’s try to bring fifty or more students next year.  It’s close, and very well run.  Great job, everyone!
