Who We Are

Glens Falls Tae Kwon Do is proud to be a long-time supporter of community needs in the Adirondack region and Tri-County area.  Since 1989, through the generosity and dedication of our students and families, GFTKD has been able to sponsor countless individuals, public school PTSO’s, local and national charities, sports teams and many more by raising and donating more than $350,000, simply putting their martial arts skills to good use.

Our Philosophy

The traditional Korean philosophy of Tae Kwon Do is Peace through Power.  Here at GFTKD, we instill knowledge and self-assurance in our students, making them feel strong, confident and, consequently, capable and powerful.  We teach and subscribe to the tenets of Tae Kwon Do: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit, and students are expected to practice and adhere to such during their daily lives as ambassadors of the art.

Your GFTKD Team

Ninth degree Grandmaster Craig L. MacDonald has studied Tae Kwon Do nearly 50 years, and founded Glens Falls Tae Kwon Do in 1989.  Having also been a public school teacher for 33 years, he is exceptionally qualified to help students learn, grow and progress.  As a former AAU National, NYS Open and U.S. Open Cup gold medalist, Grandmaster MacDonald has trained dozens of National AAU and Junior Olympic champions, including his two sons, Matthew and Aidan.  By sharing his knowledge and skills, Grandmaster MacDonald’s purpose and goal have always been to help all students reach their full potential in a supportive, caring and positive atmosphere.

Fifth degree instructor, Master Aidan J. MacDonald made his GFTKD debut at the tender age of 3 ½.  More than 20 years later, he remains a most integral part of Team GFTKD’s success.  His knowledge base and teaching aptitude, customer relatability and popularity with our youngsters (and those young at heart!) are unsurpassed.  Master Aidan spent his teen years vigorously honing his martial arts skills, opening doors for countless 1st place performances in local tournament circuits.  Summer 2017 found 17-year-old Master Aidan defeating several opponents for the gold medal in forms at the AAU Nationals, 18-34 men’s division in Fort Lauderdale!  Just weeks later, he scored 9 gold and 2 silver medals at the AAU Junior Olympics in Detroit.  Since then, Master Aidan’s priority has become entirely focused on service to his fellow students.

Last to don a belt and dobok, 4th degree instructor, Master Tamsin L. MacDonald began her climb to black and beyond at 44 in 2007.  Within a few short months, she also became the Chief Operations Officer at GFTKD, caring for, closely monitoring and guiding all students through their respective Tae Kwon Do journeys.  Mrs. Mac’s unique skill set includes wrangling white belts, corralling and communicating with customers and performing a one-of-a-kind collection of tasks that few other posts on Earth require!  Previous professional experience includes 10 years of public school teaching, 2 years of pre-school teaching, decades of lifeguarding, municipal code editing, coaching for cheerleading and synchronized swimming and 6 months of training bottle-nosed dolphins.
